BASEL (English: Basle / French: Bâle) is a city in Switzerland located on the river Rhine. Basel is one of Switzerland’s most-populous cities. Around 830,000 people live in the tri-border area agglomeration (Switzerland, France, Germany) , while around 1.3 million people live in the larger metropolitan area of Basel.

The official language of Basel is the Swiss variety of Standard German.
